Process for preparing insoluble saccharin

Insoluble saccharin, the chemical name is phthalimide. The appearance shape is white crystalline structure, with sweet taste and bitter taste. Insoluble saccharin can be reacted with sodium bicarbonate to produce sodium saccharin. Insoluble saccharin can often be used as a sweetener in use, and it can also be used as a non-toxic electroplating brightener in the electroplating industry.

To prepare insoluble saccharin, we can use toluene as a raw material. We prepare toluene into insoluble saccharin through processes such as sulfonation, amination, oxidation, neutralization and crystallization. In the process of preparing o-benzoylsulfonylimide (insoluble saccharin) by oxidation, we have long used potassium permanganate as the oxidant. However, the price of potassium permanganate is high and the resources are relatively scarce, so the cost of producing sodium saccharin is relatively high. At the same time, if potassium permanganate is used as an oxidant, the amount of potassium permanganate will account for more than half. In addition, during the preparation process, a large amount of waste manganese dioxide residue and waste acid water will be generated during the reaction. Doing so will not only increase labor intensity, but also pollute the environment. So we have become a more difficult subject in exploring a more cost-effective oxidation process.

When preparing insoluble saccharin, our process has the following methods:

1. Use potassium permanganate and sodium permanganate as oxidants to prepare insoluble saccharin. Among them, we can take the following three methods in the oxidation process: potassium permanganate as an oxidant; sodium permanganate as an oxidant; and a mixture of potassium permanganate and sodium permanganate as a catalyst.

2. Electrolytic oxidation method: Among them, we can use chromic acid indirect electrolytic oxidation, or use alkaline direct electrolytic oxidation.

3. Air catalytic oxidation method: We can use air in an alkaline medium for catalytic oxidation, and use air in an acid ring for catalytic oxidation.

The above several process operations can all have a good use effect on the oxidation preparation of insoluble saccharin. We can prepare insoluble saccharin according to these methods during preparation.
