Food Grade Sodium SaccharinAlso known as soluble saccharin, it is a kind of saccharin containing sodium salt, with two crystal waters. The product is colorless crystalline or slightly white crystalline powder. It contains two crystal waters, and it is easy to lose crystal water to form anhydrous sodium saccharin. After losing water, the sodium saccharin becomes a white powder with a strong and sweet taste, bitterness, odorless taste and slight fragrance. Saccharin sodium has weak heat resistance and weak alkali resistance. When saccharin sodium is heated under acidic conditions, the sweetness will gradually disappear.

How to identify food grade sodium saccharin:

1. Take out about 0.3g of the product, add 5ml of water to dissolve it, add 1ml of dilute hydrochloric acid to precipitate crystals. After the crystals are filtered, precipitated, washed with water, and dried at 105 degrees Celsius for 2 hours, the melting point measured by this method should be about 226 to 230 degrees.

2. Take out 20 mg of food grade sodium saccharin and put it into a test tube, add about 40 ml of resorcinol and mix well, add 0.5 ml of sulfuric acid, heat it over a small fire until the product is dark green, and then add 10 One milliliter of water and excess sodium hydroxide solution will show green fluorescence in the test tube.

Food-grade sodium saccharin is a synthetic sweetener commonly used in the food industry, and it is also a controversial synthetic sweetener. The sweetness of saccharin sodium is about 500 times sweeter than that of sucrose. It will not be decomposed in the body and will be excreted.

Food-grade sodium saccharin is generally added to cold drinks, beverages, popsicles, jelly, preserves, and pastries. At the same time, food-grade sodium saccharin is also added to daily chemical industries such as toothpaste, mouthwash, and eye drops. Used in the food industry as a sweetening diet, it has become a commonly used synthetic sweetener.
